Stress Management with Nutrition

Are you experiencing any of the following?

  • Dizziness

  • Sleep Disturbances

  • Breathlessness

  • Frightening Thoughts

  • Worrying

  • Dis-organisation

  • Poor memory/concentration

  • Tiredness

  • Palpitations

  • Panic Attacks

  • Irritability

The above are just some of the symptoms we can experience when we are suffering long-term stress. Stress Management teaches you to better manage your stress levels by firstly teaching you how stress changes your physiology to help you understand what is going on inside and why you are experiencing physical symptoms. It then helps you to change your thought processes as well as equipping you with techniques to bring about  feelings of relaxation, feelings which will ensure positive chemicals are being released that promote health and well-being. Several methods of relaxation are taught over several weeks with close monitoring of which method is most suited to the client's needs.

When a person has been under long-term stress, nutritional health will have also been negatively impacted because long term stress depletes certain nutrients in our body, particularly those associated with energy production. Our nutrient levels are also further impacted by stress because of the food choices we tend to make when we are experiencing stress and anxiety. It is common for these food choices to further drive our anxieties rather than calm our nervous system down and so a vicious circle ensues and eventually physical symptoms are experienced.

I don't start to look at nutritional deficiencies until at least the second visit as I feel it is important to start with stress and anxiety management before tackling diet. I will be looking at your current diet as part of the stress management process and looking for ways that it can be improved to ensure that adequate nutrients to combat stress are being included going forward.

Nutrition With Stress Management

Have you been diagnosed with any of the following chronic health conditions:

  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome/General Gut Issues

  • Psoriasis

  • High Blood Pressure

  • Back/Neck Pain

  • Chronic Fatigue

  • "Lump in the throat" or Difficulty Swallowing

  • Headaches

The above symptoms are very much associated with stress or stressful life events and it is very common for clients to report that they did not experience any physical symptoms until they lost someone close to them or they had been under long-term stress at work or experienced a family crisis etc. Stress manifests in many different ways in the body and has a massive effect on gut health and immune system health in particular. Stress management is always worth investigating where the above conditions have been diagnosed in the first instance.

Envisage Holistic Health Therapy helps to identify stressors both mentally and physically and then teaches you ways that you can manage the stresses or anxieties better as well as what foods you need to eat to support the effects of stress on the body. It is not counselling, but a mind and body approach that aims to demonstrate that what you think, day in and day out, ultimately affects your health, sometimes in ways that you would never think possible. You will be completing a detailed symptoms form ahead of any consultation, along with a full health history which looks at childhood illnesses, accidents, medications, operations and life events that have had an impact on you in order for me to get a clear picture of what has brought you to experience your current health issues.

Sessions are usually around an hour and a half long and start by discussing the answers you given to the pre-consultation paperwork. I will be looking for likely triggers and drivers of your physical symptoms by looking at your current eating habits, past health history as well as discussing the thoughts you have around your health generally. A Nutritional Plan will be created aimed at plugging any nutrient 'gaps' identified. I will also look to identify any stress and anxiety that may be impacting your body and work with you to teach you how to calm your mind and therefore calm your body. You will learn the effects of stress on the body, techniques to help you relax, techniques to re-frame the thoughts you have about your stress.
